Overview

Calling Sombra a melee assassin sells her short. Her shot carries further than everything except Nia's and Rocco's, and lands 23 damage every 0.4 seconds โ€” one projectile, no spread, so a miss costs the whole interval. The dash is not how she opens a fight; it is how she finishes one she was already winning from range.

85 HP shapes the rest. Only Zippy carries less against a roster average of 107.5, and three connected shots from Rocco or Nia end her. Her 265 speed, second only to Zippy's 300, exists to choose where fights start and to walk out of the ones she did not choose.

Reading her numbers

Single-projectile fighters live and die on accuracy: land everything and 23 a shot is about 57 damage a second, miss one in three and you are below Medika. Range is her unexpected edge โ€” third-longest on the roster, while opponents keep positioning as if she were a brawler. Cover matters as much: a bush hides you from anyone not already close, and her dash covers just under that distance, so the enemy who has lost sight of you is one dash away.

One projectile means per-shot and volley damage are the same 23; reach is how far a bullet flies before it fades.

Super: Shadow Charge

๐ŸŒ‘ Super
Shadow Charge
Sombra hops a fixed distance in the direction she is aiming and looses three heavy bullets in a tight fan as she lands โ€” 40 damage each, fatter than her normal shot but shorter-lived, so all three connect at point-blank and none of them do at long range. The hop grants no invulnerability.

120 damage is the figure to memorise. From full health, eight of the ten fighters die to a clean Shadow Charge outright; only Tanko at 165 HP and Rocco at 130 survive one, and Rocco only until your next shot lands. Used as an opener it is a mediocre poke; saved for a wounded target it is an execution nobody reacts to.

It pays for itself, too. Super charge comes from damage dealt, roughly 45% of it, with a bonus for every knockout โ€” so a fully connected dash returns over half of the next bar, and the knockout on top leaves you about three clean shots from having it again.

Strengths

Watch out for

Where she is worth the pick

Deathmatch

Her mode, and it is not close. Ninety seconds, everyone back two seconds after they drop with a moment of immunity on landing, and only knockouts on the board. Fragility stops mattering when dying costs two seconds, and someone is always bleeding out of a fight they started with somebody else. Never duel a full bar; your target is whoever is already busy. And dying resets your charge to nothing, so a full super at 20 HP gets spent now.

Tournament

A straight duel against one opponent who gets tougher each stage, with nobody around to punish a disengage. Back off, make them walk into your range, keep the bar loaded โ€” then dash to close a health gap you could never out-shoot.

Gem Rush

Knocking out a carrier scatters their gems, and 120 damage takes almost anyone out of a countdown, so appoint yourself the leader-killer. What you must not do is carry: Sombra with a lead is the one player the whole lobby can actually kill.

Battle and Royale

One life each, with a toxic ring pushing everyone inward. Her speed reaches the safe zone before the crowd, which matters far more on 85 HP than on 165. The trap is the endgame: when the ring packs survivors together, area supers โ€” Bolt's, Frost's, Brasa's โ€” hit everything inside it, including a Sombra who has just landed.

3v3, King of the Hill and Horde

Her three weakest modes, for three different reasons. Nobody respawns in 3v3, so one dash into two enemies ends your match. King of the Hill pays you for standing in the middle of the map, which on 85 HP is a patient way to lose. And Horde rewards damage that hits several enemies at once, while she fires one bullet at a time.

Matchups that decide her games

Rocco beats her at both ends โ€” more damage per shot, more range, and he is one of only two fighters who walks away from a full super. Frost and Bolt kill her through the dash, since their supers fill the space around them and the hop cannot be aborted once pressed. Nia out-distances her badly but shares the same 85 HP, so the moment you close she is gone. Tanko has the shortest reach in the game: kite him for the eight shots it takes, and never dash into 165 HP. Zippy is the one chase you lose, 300 against your 265.

Common mistakes

Opening with the dash. It is a finisher and a refund engine; spent on a full bar it buys nothing and is gone when the kill appears.

Dashing into a group. The hop is a fixed distance in a fixed direction โ€” two enemies near your target and you land between them, with no immunity and 85 HP.

Playing her at knife range. Seven of the ten fighters cannot reach as far as she can; standing where Tanko or Brasa is comfortable throws away her best stat.

๐Ÿ’ก Learn the dash length in Training first. The hop is always the same distance, and knowing exactly where you land separates an execution from a free kill for the other player.

Unlocking & skins

400 coins in the shop puts her among the pricier unlocks โ€” above Rocco at 350, below Brasa at 450 โ€” or she comes free at level 22 on the Reward Road, and a box roll occasionally hands her over early. Three paid skins sit alongside her default, from 80 to 150 coins.
